- Woah, Has it actually been 7 1/2 years since I've done anything wiht this site?! I think I'm now the last person I know to actually have a personal website still in existance! I'm going to try and clean this site up a bit, and hopefully make all of the pages functional again (or remove the menu items for things that no longer work).
1/17/2008
- As requested, the Hired/Fired page was updated.
3/16/2007
- Tip: Backup your website on a regular basis!
- Due to hard drive malfunction on my server, I am going to have to rebuild this website from web caches and memory. Some of the content may be gone forever, unless someone knows a place that can recover data from a "clicking" hard drive at a good price.
4/25/2005
- After a server glitch (who in the heck partitioned the C drive for only 3GB? oh, that was me. doh!), everything should be back up and running now, including the forums. I'm sure this will please all of the visitors here.
2/17/2005
- Added a "Desk 4.0" section to the Projects page. Check it out!!!
2/9/2005
- About Me page was updated. Yikes, some of that info was very out of date. 2 of the TV shows aren't even made anymore. I'm going to poke around and maybe make a few more updates while I'm ambitious tonight. Maybe you can find the changes without me having to tell you!
- Corrected (hopefully) a bug in my layout html that was causing some of the titlebars to display incorrectly on IE and Firefox (seems I had 2 different codes depending on the page, one worked in FF, the other n IE, the new code should work in both).
8/11/2004
- It's been a while since I had an update here, so now that I've got FrontPage loaded again, I figured its' about time I write something. This will be the last commentary posted on this page, as you will notice I have added a link to my Journal on the main menu. Personal updates will be posted there in the future, and this page will remain for news about updates to the website itself.
6/17/2004
- I have started a bit of coding for my next possible programming project... A computerized Clue: Master Detective spreadsheet. I am not sure if I will ever even write the actual program, but I'm coding a couple useful classes, just in case I get ambitions one day. I am starting with a Set class. Even though c++ has one build in, I always like to write my own, just so I am sure about how it will work... Documentation for c++ sucks, especially for STL classes!
- We had a power outage today... Luckily, my computer equipment seems to have survived this one. YAY!
6/10/2004
- David and Jason better start checking the trash out in front soon. They may find a motherboard and processor in there thanks to an unfortunate electrical anomaly yesterday. Apparently some kind of power surge made its way through some of my computer equipment yesterday, leaving some parts unrepairable. I lost some ports on my cable modem switch, a network card, and a PCI slot on my MSI motherboard (gosh, too bad, a good reason to finally replace that POS). In response to the incident, I have acquired some additional power protection (yes, that's right, as if I don't already have enough UPS units), and a new motherboard (Asus A7N8X-e deluxe) and processor (AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton core). I know the processor wasn't necessary, but since I already had pc3200 memory in the system, going up to the 333mhz bus and a bit faster processor speed was worth the extra bit of cash, plus I was going to have to remove the old processor and heatsink, which would have been a mess. The switch still has enough working ports that it doesn't need immediate replacement. I still need to order a surge protector for the RG6 cable coming into the house though, since I suspect that's where the problem really originated. Good thing tomorrow is a payday!
- Jason is fired! My website doesn't work right in IE because of the changes I did for Mozilla. Thanks allot nosaJ!
6/6/2004
- Updated the HTML code so that the pages appear as they should while viewing with Mozilla (thanks nosaJ).
6/2/2004
- OOH! A new name! You'll notice that "Chris' Place" has morphed into "Chris' Continuum". The new name reflects the changing theme around this site, and also adds a touch of uniqueness ("Chris' Place" turned up more than a few results on Google). I hope everyone enjoys the change!
6/1/2004
- A new section of my website is now open... Perhaps it will help everyone figure out where I'll be and when...
5/26/2004
- Had lots of fun at Cedar Point on Sunday. Probably one of our best "value ratio" visits in quite a while. Only a 30-45 minute wait for Millennium Force, and everything else was almost walk-on. Fro only spending about 9 hours in the park we probably rode more rides than we normally do in a 12 hour day. The only downside was that we didn't get to ride Top Thrill Dragster. We had a freeway pass for the end of the day, but by that time, storms were moving in, and the ride was closed due to "high winds" (or was that driver just flooding the engine again :) ). We also had one of our best Dinners in a while at the Damon's in Sandusky. The waiter gave us wonderful service, and didn't appear to charge us for everything he should have. Hopefully he appreciated our generous tip!
- Due to extremely high demand, I will post a link to my Live Journal site. You can see ithere. I don't guarantee any activity on there, but I have recently been updating that journal more than my webpage. I guess the easy access from anywhere is a plus, rather than having to open FrontPage to update my page here. You will be able to read a bit about my whole Paypal debacle there, since I never even mentioned it on ym page here, I'm not going to get into it now.
- It seems SiteMeter has a problem with the server my counter was on. All info was lost, so I've had to re-create the counter. I estimate I had about 2350 hits before the count was lost, so hopefully my estimate isn't too inaccurate.
4/6/2004
- Hmm, It has been a while since my last update... Where does all the time go? Hmm, I guess to Best Buy. Argh!
- I've started an ambitious project to rip my small CD collection to AAC (mp4) files. This will replace the low quality mp3 files I currently have :). I just hope the RIAA doesn't rind out and come knocking on my door. It IS legal to make files from my own CDs, isn't it? I'd hope so!
- Just to make someone happy, I went to her journal and posted a comment for her... Now I don't want to hear any other complaints :). Seriously, when do I have time to go visiting websites anymore?
3/2/2004
- I now have a Geforce FX5950 Ultra... At least that's what my computer thinks! :) I upgraded the bios on my 5900 ultra with one for a 5950 ultra after doing much research on the subject, and it worked without any problems so far. Whether the performance changed remains to be seen...
- I seem to have Half-Life working on my main computer now! When is that next LAN Party, Dave? I'm not sure if my video card "upgrade" fixed the problem, or if using the new "Steam" version of Half-Life was the answer. Probably the Latter...
2/13/2004
- Woohoo! A day off! Finally!
- 2 of my favorite managers at Best Buy got promoted out of our store in the past week :(. Congratulations to them, but now work seems much less fun. In a bit of good news, one of their replacements is a former manager that I like, so hopefully it will all work out.
1/20/2004
- Well, after seeing Jason's first news update in months, it appears I should accelerate design and development of the next version of my homepage. It may even be done before 2005! I've already been doing some initial testing, though the results have not been as successful as I'd hope. I'm sure some of you have noticed some of the initial prep work I've been doing for the eventual rollout of my v5.0 site. I'll keep my goals for my next version secret though, just in case they don't all work out :).
- Oh, actually, I suppose I could let some of you in on one of the newer "hidden" features I've added recently. Just try going to http://www.chris.caseyhome.com/sifhasdfiushdfisuhdf.
- Nice to see some people are visiting my website again... Jason and Dave (and maybe even Donna???)... Welcome back!
1/17/2004
- After some tentative data entry, it appears I'll owe the IRS about $65 bucks this year. I guess having two jobs messes up the tax payments. I think I have that straightened out for this year. On a happier note, Michigan owes me $43. Suckers!!!
- Changed the file structure of the website significantly today. I doubt you'll notice the difference, but it's there, and should make for easier archival in the future. I just I haven't confused the search bots.
1/15/2004
- Hmm, I guess the new year isn't 2003, eh? I guess I had a "broken gear" in my year counter. I guess it's repaired for now.
- Please don't use Netscape 4.x to view my site. It is a stupid browser, and doesn't understand how to handle my relatively simple webpage code.
- Re-coded the header portion of my website so that any competent html renderer (not Netscape 4.x!) will be able to understand what I want.
1/11/2004
- Happy New Year to all of my visitors. I hope it's a wonderful and prosperous year for almost all (only one person will probably understand the meaning of that :) ).
- I'm enjoying (hmm, that's not the right word, oh well) my second week as an official department leader at Best Buy. I assure you it's tons of fun.
- In current events news, I got second prize at our little No-Limit Texas Hold-em Game last night. I'm sure I would have eventually worn down the chip leader if he hadn't grown bored of playing!
12/25/2003
- Happy late birthday to me!
- Merry Christmas!
- I got some cool coin sets for Christmas this year. They almost complete my 1999-2003 U.S. Mint coin collection. I'm thinking a safe might be needed to secure these things, as the collection grows. Too bad safes are so costly! Argh!
12/8/2003
- I can't believe it! I actually used all of my "spare" time to create a new section... I'm sure you'll be able to find it. Enjoy!
12/6/2003
- Well, I suppose it's time for an update again, after many months of silence...
- Since the last update (or next to last, I suppose), here's what's happened...
- I am now a full-time employee at Best Buy... Now I'm just waiting for the big bucks to arrive :)
- You should notice how speedy my site is now, thanks to the upgrade to a 3.0ghz Pentium 4 system (thanks for the discount, Intel)! The question is, does my little web server need to be 3ghz? Probably not! But it's still cool!
- Version 5.0 of my website was under development, but was scrapped due to some difficulties getting things to work properly... Don't worry though, I'm always thinking of ways to improve the site... Like getting the forums working again, and maybe moving some stuff to a database... I have to find some way to use all that horsepower I have now!
- Hmm, speaking of horsepower, I also have my very own brand new car now! A Matador Red 2003 Ford Taurus SEL.
- Let's see... Nothing else much I can think of now... That's why I should be doing more frequent updates... I suppose I'll try that once again...
- Happy Holidays!
12/5/2003
- Hello again!
6/10/2003
- PICARD Lives! After a few hours of assembly, Picard is once again alive and functional. Only complaint I have is that the Memory voltage had to be raised to 2.8 (the maximum) to get the system to be stable... I don't know why this board is so picky about that, but as long as it works, I'm ok with it! I also decided to put in a M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card, as the onboard sound from the IC7 isn't exactly the best...
6/5/2003
- New parts for "Picard" have been ordered. All I need now is a power supply (and eventually a video card, but my wallet has declined that transaction at the current time). Hopefully I'll be able to use that new PVR card soon :). I can't want to start "PVRing".
- New configuration for "Picard"
- Motherboard: ABIT IC7 (I'm taking a chance here not getting an ASUS... ABIT better not disappoint me!)
- Processor: Pentium 4 2.6ghz (800mhz bus)
- Memory: 1GB Mushkin pc3200 "222"
- Video Card: MSI Geforce 3 ti200 (GeForce FX 5900 Ultra eventually...)
- Hard Drive: Maxtor 120GB (DiamondMax Plus 9 series)
- DVD: Toshiba 16x
- CDRW: LiteOn 52/24/52
- PVR: Hauppauge PVR250
- Networking: (2) 3com 3c905cxm 10/100 cards
- Power: Antec TruePower 550 (still need to order that)
- New configuration for "Picard"
- I'm sending a big "booooooooooooooooooo" to all the people who declined to come to six flags! You all better come to Cedar Point later this summer, or face dire consequences.
- Congratulations to the newlyweds, Bryan and Erica. I'm sure they're enjoying their honeymoon as we speak!
4/26/2003
- Waking up at 7:00am is less than optimal!
- I should be on the floor at Best Buy for the first time on Tuesday... To all the wonderful friends who think they're getting a discount, think again! Family only...
- After doing more research for my new computer, the ABIT IC7 motherboard is looking nice (cheaper than ASUS, has optical digital audio input and output, and has the ICH5R, which ASUS neglected to use for some odd reason)... That, plus a shiny new P4 with 800mhz bus, and some RAM should make a speedy and stable new system. Unfortunately, no Dolby Digital audio encoding... Sorry nVidia, but AMD processors just aren't cutting it...
- People, you need to learn how to view and REPLY to evites... The response-rate and view-rate of the Six Flags evite has been terrible!
4/24/2003
- The site is not running on the P3-1000 again. The upgrade didn't go as smoothly as I planned, but I think I messed it up by having configuration boxes open while running a configuration wizard... My bad!
- I should be starting work at Best Buy sometime next week. I will be going in Saturday for training, unfortunately at 8:00am! I wasn't aware anyone was awake at such an early hour (other than my dad!)
4/22/2003
- All sites hosted here will be down sometime soon, as I am finally retiring the P2-400 that this site is run off of. Soon it will be back on the ever-popular P3-1000! Yay speed!
- In related news, I will be in need of a new main system soon... Intel or AMD??? That's a tough one... At this point, the P4C800 motherboard and a nice P4 look attractive, but I'd miss the Dolby-Digital output of the A7N8x and AthlonXP.
4/15/2003
- Look! A new section! WOW!
- I am currently investigating some rendering "issues" in IE (the header is getting messed up) on my network parties page, and also a couple others. Right now, it looks like an IE issue that we'll just have to deal with... Sorry...
4/15/2003
- Been improving my Winamp skin bit by bit... Have you tried the latest version? Get it on my Winamp page, or from theOfficial Winamp site (maybe you'll be number 50,000 to download it from there, only a few hundred to go!)
- Wasn't Donna's "Last Last Concert" great?
- Come back later when I'll have more to say...
3/30/2003
- Released version 2.9.0 of my Sony ReplicAmp skin... Support for Winamp 2.9 (beta2 at least) is now included. Enjoy!!!
3/30/2003
- Added a link to Tom's Site on my Links page...
- Can't think of any other recent news to report this week... Maybe something exciting will happen before my next update.
3/19/2003
- Chris' Place: The Fourth Generation Launched!
- After weeks of design, development, and testing, I have decided that my newest design is finally ready for the public! I may make some minor changes, but this is the general design I'll be using for the foreseeable future! Like it? Leave a comment in the forums!
- New Sections:
- Racing Sims (back from the graveyard!)
- Beta testing
- Projects
- About Me
- Pictures from the fall 2002 network party have finally been posted.
3/12/2003
- O.K., This is nuts! Three updates this week!
- My new "ovens" arrived today... Some nice guy on eBay decided to help offset the costs of the "ovens" by buying my old Plextor SCSI CD-ROM for $80! Thanks to that overzealous bidder!
- Unfortunately, installing the old "oven" into the server had unintended side-effects. WideOpenWest decided to change the IP address of the server, so if you noticed some downtime today, that's why. On the bright side, they actually fixed the problem when I called (unlike "brand 'C'"), so there shouldn't be any of these problems in the future! (Applause Please!!!)
3/11/2003
- Alright, hold your applause everyone... Yes, you're not hallucinating, this is my second update in the last week...
- I just had to tell everyone that my "bakery" has been cooking up a brand new project! Yes, it's exactly what you've been waiting for! It's a Bootable MS-DOS CD (to replace those aging, unreliable floppy boot disks). After much research and CD-RW use today, I finally have a working test CD that can boot to a minimal DOS environment. Now I just have to figure out what extras should be included on the CD, and we'll be all set! I have already included Partition Magic 8, and System Commander 7 files, as well as mouse drivers and an NTFS partition reader. If you have any other useful programs you think my CD couldn't be burned without, let me know! Maybe I'll make you a copy when it's done :).
3/08/2003
- My server is being very uncooperative today! I hope it's fixed now, but no guarantees!
- I'm still waiting for MY free Californian vacation, but nobody seems to be offering one! Some people just have all the luck...
- I am now the official debugger for nosaJ's Realm... I'll be looking very closely so spot anything that doesn't line up pixel by pixel!
- My "bakery" is expanding! I'm sure everyone at the LAN parties will be happy to hear that (even though I won't be bringing any of the additional ovens with me if the network party is away from my house.
2/16/2003
- Well, for anyone who noticed, my server "upgrade" a few weeks ago had the unfortunate effect of breaking my forums. Never fear though, my most recent update yesterday has restored the functionality! YAY!
- Setup a VPN server so that my computer won't be "lonely" when I take it to a network party!
- Oh, and that Quad-Shielded TG6 Cable I ordered arrived this week. It's a pain in the butt to replace all of the old cable, but this new cable should last quite a while. I've already found one of the old cabled had a significant cut in it, so I'm glad I got rid of that!
- Changed the link to Jason's Website, since U of Michigan has cut off his webspace... When you visit his website, either go into the non-flash version, or turn your volume down first, unless you want to wake the neighbors!
2/4/2003
- My website will be down for server upgrades within the next day. The outage may last un to 24 hours.
- Thanks to a Drop Amp I purchased from eBay, the cable TV picture quality seems to be improved throughout the house. Yay! Now we'll see how all the new quad-shielded cable performs when it arrives in a couple weeks.
- We had a nice little heat wave here today... Too bad it was ruined by persistent precipitation.
- If anyone tried to download my Winamp skin, and got a 404 error, I'd like to inform you that the problem has been corrected (I just have to remember to apply the fix after the upgrade, but I'll probably forget).
1/29/2003
- Hmm, not much new to report lately.
- Jason's "Digital Bliss" website debuted this week, if you want to have some music blasting out of your computer ASAP, go over and check his site (don't use the "I'm scared" mode though if you want music)
- If you've been under a rock for the last few days, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won their first super bowl over the weekend.
- Oh, apparently I did have one accomplishment this week... Screwing up Jeff's computer (although I wasn't even trying, I think his computer framed me!)
- If you're waiting for my website version number to increment, I'm afraid you'll have to wait longer. I'm pondering making some other changes to my website. I have to compete with "digital bliss" now...
1/21/2003
- My hit counter has once again been changes. I am now using sitemeter.com, since bravenet doesn't provide in-depth details like sitemeter.
- Look everyone, no frames! That's right, my website no longer uses any frames. I'm sure that not many people will notice a difference, but this change was made to better accommodate XHTML standards. If you're using Netscape version 4.x or lower, you may notice some distortion when you resize the browser window, but it's not my fault. I suggest all of my website visitors upgrade to the latest version of
Internet Explorer, Mozilla, or
Netscape.
- I will soon re-version the site as either 3.1, 3.5, or possibly even 4.0! I'm just trying to make the site as W3C compliant as possible (I think having 100% compliance is almost unattainable, since Netscape 4.x doesn't understand half of the complaint code). Once I am completely satisfied, I'll go ahead and change my graphic :).
- You may notice my nice gradient background has disappeared. This is an unfortunate result of my new frameless layout. I'm trying to find a suitable background replacement.
- I finally put in proper links to see the Network Party Teardown from Fall 2002. Enjoy! This is about the most "Digital Bliss" you're going to see on my site for a while, unless i get ambitious and finally add the old Network Party pics.
1/17/2003
- Gosh, has it been almost 2 months since my last update? I'm going to have to "fire" myself for that! Well, let's see what's been happening for the last couple months
- Switched from Earthlink DSL to WideOpenWest cable modem service. The prices from WOW are just too good to pass up!
- Went to a couple Network Parties during the holidays. We actually played a lot of racing finally! Unfortunately, my computer doesn't like to be taken away from it's nice cozy "Desk 3.0", so the party at Jason's wasn't very fun for the first few hours while I corrected the problems.
- SimCity 4 came out this week. If you liked the previous games in the SimCity series, I'm sure you'll love this one too! I give it an "A-" (just because playing the large cities seems to need more CPU cycles that my Athlon 1900+ has if you want smooth video when scrolling).
- Had a good Christmas. When is everyone coming over for the Star Trek: TNG party? We've got quite a few episodes left to watch... Come on people! Reservations are going fast!
11/28/2002
- Hmm, it appears that I may be going to an AMC Theater for the first time in months tonight to see James Bond: Die Another Day. Note to AMC, this doesn't mean the boycott is over, just temporarily suspended. Lower your prices!
- Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
11/22/2002
- These updates are out of control!
- Well, after some fiddling around (re-installing application, re-entering codes), The situation seems like it may have stabilized. If something goes wrong, and the Windows re-install party occurs, All of you wonderful caseyhome.com visitors will be pleased to know that I will regress back to Windows 2000 SP3, and move to a single server solution (using the P2-400 server, and converting the P3-1000 into a client computer)
11/22/2002
- Wow, 2 updates in one day, this must be a record or something!
- Very strange events going on with the computers here today. Out of the blue, my internet sharing program has decided to start spontaneously crashing on both of my server computers. I can't figure out what I did to my computers to make them mad at me though. Maybe they just want some recognition for their hard work, so I'm giving shout-outs to "Picard" and Riker". Any further problems will result in more drastic measures (can you say "Windows re-install party?).
11/22/2002
- Hmm, I am one day late on my "weekly" update that I promised. I guess I'll have to fire myself, but since I've been such a good employee over the years, I'll also re-hire myself.
- Now, to actually get to some news. Well, no news is good news, right? The only thing I can think of right now is that more Christmas decorations are going up around here. Even the main Christmas tree has been put up! yay! It's beginning to look alot like Christmas, especially with the little dusting of snow we got last night.
- Happy birthday this week to Donna.
11/14/2002
- Well, to keep up with my competition (Jason and David), I am going to start having weekly updates as well... I am serious this time, no more empty promises from you're friendly webmaster here at caseyhome.com (or chriscasey.us :) )
- Hmm, now to come up with something to say today... Well, I have just finished helping put up our sleigh and reindeer decorations on the roof of our house. If you haven't seen them yet, you're really missing out. Maybe I can get some pictures once all the decorations are put up. Speaking of pictures, I guess I really need to get my act together with the network party section. I admit I've been pretty lazy about doing that. Oh well, perhaps by the time we have another network party, I'll have that section up and running.
- For god sake, would someone please visit my forum... It is dead in there. I was kind enough to go out and get UBB just so Jason could have his emoticons, and how does he thank me? Well, he doesn't! How rude!
- I have a pending complaint about the amount of horizontal whitespace on my webpage. Look for this to be addressed in the near future (although ii will probably just result in having more vertical whitespace, unless I can come up with some more things to say.
10/6/2002
- Went to Cedar Point yesterday... Much fun was had by all... I sure with that would announce what the new coaster they are building is going to look like. The best part of the day had to be riding in the very front on the Millennium Force at about 1:00am... If you haven't ridden in the front, you don't know what you're missing! The Force is definitely in the front...
- I really need to get working on that network party section...
9/24/2002
- As you may have noticed, I am giving my homepage a facelift... That's right folks, after a few years, I felt it was time to update the graphics a bit, but nothing too major. For now, some sections may have the old graphics, and may open in new windows (sorry about that, but it was necessary to redo the layout to get this improved look), but don't worry, I am working to update all the pages soon!
- New sections added!
- News - I guess you already found your way here. This is going to replace the unused section of my page... I am going to try to update this site more often in the future (ya ya, I know you've heard that before...).
- Network Parties - Check out some photos, movies, and comments about our "famous" network parties!
- Section Removed :(
- Yes, that's right, I decided to finally retire the racing sims section. I know everyone is sad to see it go, but have no fear, it may return at some point if i ever have some content for newer racing games (the games I had content for were 5-7 years old).
- New Counter (no exclamation point here).
- Well, apparently Netscape decided to discontinue the Hit-o-meter service, so I have now switched to a Bravenet counter (that's right, I have selected site that has some gearing problems with their counters, but it was all I could find in a hurry, let's just hope they've got their gears permanently fixed. :) ). I don't like it as much, but we'll all have to live with it for now.
